Rebekah ditches her high heels for Bowel Cancer UK
Rebekah Prince a local Healing Practitioner; is ditching her high heels and will be trekking through the Impenetrable Forest in Uganda for Bowel Cancer UK. The itinery is not one to be under estimated. The terrain is tough and varied consisting of volcanic mountains and deep valleys with varying temperatures.
Rebekah said she has never done anything like this before so it will be an immense challenge; she stated ‘I have participated in charity treks before, such as the Himalayas in 2013 and Macchu Picchu; Peru in 2011 for Havens Hospices; however this one looks to be the toughest yet!’ To add to the challenge Rebekah is suffering with a foot condition that can make it painful for her to walk.
This year is particularly prevalent as Rebekah treks in honour of her father and the marvelous work that current medical advances can achieve. Rebekah’s father was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2013; having since had most of his bowel removed and a change of lifestyle thankfully they were able to save her father from a cancer that so many die from.
Early diagnosis of bowel cancer in the UK is a problem because people either find it uncomfortable to discuss the symptoms of the disease or simply do not know what they are. Survival rates in the UK are amongst the lowest in Europe, with 15% more patients being diagnosed at a later stage of the disease compared with most other European countries. Bowel Cancer UK saves lives by raising awareness, campaigning for best treatment and care and providing practical support and advice.
Rebekah said ‘It’s a sad fact 1 in 3 people will get cancer and not everyone is as lucky as my dad.’ She added ‘without the investments made by Bowel Cancer UK my father would possibly not have survived. My whole family are obviously thrilled he has been given a second chance and this is my way of giving something back whilst spreading awareness of this illness so that hopefully more lives can be saved’.
Rebekah specialises in Theta Healing and Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) also known as tapping. Both are healing modalities that enable negative beliefs to be accessed though the subconscious and changed to positive beliefs. These techniques assist people to live the lives they desire and remove any stumbling blocks they may have. As a result she has been able to overcome personal negative beliefs around fitness and health and has been able to not only meet challenging events such as this trek but more importantly enjoy them.
Rebekah is looking for support and sponsorship from the local community. She is extremely grateful to Anette Ogelund from Thor Training www.facebook.com/anettethortraining who is helping her to get in shape and to Danbury Sports and Social Centre www.danburysportscentre.co.uk who have given her six months free gym membership to train in preparation for the trek.
Please help Rebekah to raise the target of £3500 for this awesome charity. She is self funding the trip and all the expensive trekking equipment, taxes and transport required so please be assured your donation will be going to the charity concerned!
